Sign in the elevator says that Sophon has started to do the cabling for this service and it should be done in about 4 weeks.

In building D, they have started to run the cables and have holes in the ceiling. I heard from William that the price would be 500 Baht per month. He said at Center Condo it was 200 Baht per month.

Good news. I talked with the installer for Sophon. It's actually an independent contractor. They are ripping out most of the old cable and equipment because it was cheap equipment and poorly installed. One of them was trained by an American in Bangkok when they did the original PPV installations. They know about the quality issues of cheap cable, poorly installed connectors and cheaper distribution hardware.

I talked to them about the issues of distributing the signals and using a distribution amplifier for best signal quality. They understood but weren't sure it was within their budget. They were very concerned about being able to get into each condo and testing the signal quality for every room. Something that had clearly not been done before.

They are routing the cables to each condo instead of splitting the signal along the way so everyone will have about the same signal quality. The UBC free channels now looks very clear in my room at the end of the hallway so maybe there is enough signal strength for them to do this approach.

They said they will be combining the signals for UBC and Sophon on the same cables so you will have the choice of either or both without needing any changes.

Anyone know what the latest situation with the Sophon Cable is? Has installation been completed? How is the signal strength and quality? Any more developments regarding the cost per month?

Looking forward to having the choice watch some Aussie sport without having to go to a bar. Is the Super Sports channels from South Africa still part of the package? I have had problems finding current information on the net.

Willie said they installed it yesterday in his room in Building D. Said the signal looks good. Price is 400 Baht per month. He said just were installing across the hall and he asked if he could have it so they just did it.

Thats fantastic. I will be back on Tuesday. Hopefully I can get it connected before I come back to work.

For whatever reason. This year Australia Network on Sophon is not playing NRL or Super 15 Rugby. I think this non-coverage will also include State of Origin and Rugby Test Matches. Sophon also do not transmit Super Sports from South Africa which also used to play a lot of Rugby and cricket.

Considering that Australian played shite this year, maybe losing cricket coverage is a good thing. All in all the worth of Sophon to me has fallen over 50%. Still ok for one english movie channel, BBC news, english Aljazeera (not as bad as you would think) two shite (tennis, soccer and other crap) channels, one shit sifi channel and all the Thai channels your Teerak could ever hope for.

All in all. I feel very dissapointed this year in Sophon.
